What is a septic inspection and why is it important?

A septic inspection is a professional checkup of your septic system to make sure it's working properly. During an inspection, a technician will examine the tank, pipes, and drain field, check for signs of damage or leaks, and measure sludge levels. Inspections are important because they can catch small issues before they become big (and expensive) problems. They’re especially helpful when buying or selling a home, or as part of regular maintenance to keep your system running smoothly.

Once the inspection is complete, we’ll give you a straightforward and detailed report with our findings. You can use it for your own peace of mind or as part of a real estate transaction if you're buying or selling a home.

Hydraulic Load Test

A hydraulic load test is a specialized test used during a septic inspection—especially in real estate transactions—to determine whether the drain field can handle the typical daily flow of wastewater from a home.

How it works:

A hydraulic load test simulates normal water usage by slowly adding a set amount of water into the septic system (usually based on the number of bedrooms in the home). This test checks how well the system accepts and processes the water.

Why it’s important:

  • It helps assess the function of the drain field, especially if the home has been vacant or lightly used. We may also recommend this service if there will be a significant increase in occupancy.

  • It can reveal problems like drain field saturation, clogs, or failure that aren’t always visible during a standard inspection.

  • It provides valuable insight for homebuyers to ensure the system can handle regular use before purchasing a property.
